The Colorado Plateau is most frequently thought of in terms of it’s magnificent red sandstone canyons and like every other landscape photographer that is where I began when I first came here. Time and good fortune brought my eyes closer to my feet and narrowed my compositions. I still look for the beauty in sandstone; but now it is usually on a much smaller scale.
Line, color and texture guide the selection of my compositions for the most part; sometimes all together, other times just one component. As I began to organize the images in these portfolios I realized that most of these photographs have been taken within 300 miles of home. The desert has been so rewarding that it hasn’t been necessary to stray too far to find something new and unusual. Most of the time the desert is too rich and I know I have left behind more images than I will ever capture, so I’ll just have to go back.
